Birch serving spoon

Large serving/cooking spoon carved from a bent Birch branch. This spoon has been worked in sympathy with the natural curve of the wood's fibres. The tension in the branch has created a ripple across the whole bowl that catches the light as the spoon is moved.
The direction of the fibres has dictated the strength, form and movement of the finished spoon.
Collected from East Woodlands, Somerset. Carved with axe and knives, and finished with Treatex hardwax oil.
