Inspired by the Swedish sloyd tradition, these eating spoons are designed to be held comfortably in the hand with the crank (the angle change between the bowl and the handle) keeping the bowl of the spoon flat. Carved from a variety of locally sourced hardwoods, these spoons are either carved tangentially or radially to the pith which present the growth rings in different ways on the finished product. Serving spoons
Carved as an expression of the timber as it is harvested, these spoons are split from naturally bent pieces of wood so that the fibres run all the way along the form. This gives the whole spoon strength as well as allowing it to show all its idiosyncrasies. My role as the carver is to keep moving with the grain and therefore every single one will present itself uniquely.
