Sweet Chestnut Spoon

£40.00

Large serving spoon carved from a bent Sweet Chestnut branch. This spoon has been worked in sympathy with the natural curve of the wood's fibres, the tip of the handle retains the bark and cambium layer of the branch and both the handle and bowl show the tension lines where the branch strengthened itself when it was part of the tree. these show up as the spoon is moved in the light.

The direction of the fibres has dictated the strength, form and movement of the finished spoon.

Collected from Lord's Wood, Somerset. Carved with axe and knives, and finished with Treatex hardwax oil.
